This historic and original Low Chassis Lagonda was discovered by Andy Bell on axle stands in a lock up garage near Birmingham in 2013 where it had been stored since 1992 having been part payment of a bad debt. The condition of the car was sound, it having had considerable work done in the late 1980’s which included repair of the coachwork with vinyl and new upholstery. A photo history of the disinterment is available.
Significant re-commissioning work was completed on the car at Ecurie Bertelli Ltd. to get it running, which included; a full re-wire and charging up-grade, new fuel tank, new clutch linings, rebuilt shock absorbers, radiator re-core, new water pipes and hoses and a very thorough clean out of the cylinder block.
A new water pump was fitted to the engine, the oil pump was rebuilt and attention was paid to the carburation. The engine is currently fitted with twin 1 ¼” SU carbs fed by twin SU fuel pumps. The ignition is coil and breaker via an original Lucas A12 coil conversion. A Lucas magneto is also available. The car was last used in 2016 and it comes with FIVA documents.
Over the past couple of years a complete set of supercharger installation fittings has been collected, with the help of Lagonda expert John Batt, including an original larger Zoller no.5 supercharger and an original 1 5/8” bronze bodied SU carburettor. The rebuild of the supercharger and the drive-assembly was carried out by renowned specialist Dereck Chinn. The assembly is virtually ‘ready to fit’ and will significantly improve the performance of the car when fitted. The final assembly and fitting work can be carried out by Ecurie Bertelli Ltd.
In addition there is a quantity of black ‘Rexine’ available, manufactured by R. C. Moss on the original ‘Rexine’ machine, sufficient to recover the coachwork and bonnet sides. This is a unique opportunity to restore the T2 coachwork fabric to original specification and it will be the only such Lagonda with this ‘new’ original material. Only one other non-Bentley has so far been restored using original ‘Rexine’. Ecurie Bertelli Ltd. can also undertake this work.
This exiting restoration project, when completed, will result in a unique Supercharged Lagonda with original specification coachwork and very good pre-war rally history. With the values of 2 litre Lagondas increasing rapidly over the past 5 years this car represents a very sound investment.
Price, to include supercharger and ‘Rexine’. Completion of restoration work to be carried out by Ecurie Bertelli Ltd.
