Aston-Martin short chassis G7/805/SO has been subject to an Ecurie Bertelli mechanical check and re-commissioning following some time without use. Ecurie Bertelli have replaced all tyres, checked and serviced the braking system, completed minor safety items before returning the car to running condition. G7/805/SO is nicely lightly patinated in attractive old English white with red interior and weather equipment. Ready to be driven and enjoyed, this car would benefit from a programme of mechanical improvement over the coming years.
The Aston-Martin 15/98 and Speed Models were the ultimate development of Aston-Martins in the pre-war period. The 2-litre engine, which even in the 1930s was producing just under 100bhp (the 98 part of the 15/98), has significant torque allowing effortless cruising and rapid hill climbing. The handling is superb, in no small part down to sharing the front suspension including an all-new patented axle with the Speed Model. The Girling rod brakes are some of the best brakes to be found on any car with great feel and power. The Moss gearbox is very similar to that found in an XK120, with synchromesh and is much quieter than the previous straight-cut Aston-Martin gearboxes. These attributes, along with good luggage capacity, weather equipment and generous interior space and leg room of any pre-war Aston makes this the ideal rally and touring car.
