1935 Aston Martin MKII J5/592/S
J5/592/S was first registered on 8th February 1936 and is amongst the very last of the Mk IIs produced. Initially supplied via Messrs A Watson & Co of Liverpool to its first owner; Mr J Herron of Cheshire. The next recorded owner was Mr R J Stokes of East Sheen, London, who bought the car in 1950 and actively campaigned it in AMOC concours every year between 1950 and 1954, being awarded either 1st or 2nd overall or in class, and then again between 1960 and 1964, again winning either 1st or 2nd in class. Between 1968 and 1975 the vehicle was completely rebuilt. Later, in 1986, it was exported to Mr Rossbach of Germany. The current owner purchased it in 1990.
This Mk II is in very good condition with light patina and a very attractive colour scheme. Benefitting from an Ecurie Bertelli engine rebuild around the original strengthened cylinder block with an uprated crank and conrods and also a performance exhaust. J5/592/S drives very well and will be a reliable car: perfect for rallies, touring, or racing if preferred.
The Mk II model was Aston-Martin’s replacement for the Le Mans and was Introduced in 1934. It sported a new stronger chassis and an improved engine with counter-balanced crankshaft. Originally available in either short or long wheelbase versions with the short version being virtually mechanically identical to the famous Ulster racing car, one of which came 3rd overall at the Le Mans 24-hour race in 1935. A number of Mk II cars competed in period and the competition lineage can be clearly seen making it an extremely capable and fast car, suitable for rally, touring and even racing events.
