It was high time we put on another of our own events, and we like to do something a little different each time. We've had: a showroom opening, our 40th birthday party, maintenance and driving courses, and rally training - but this time we went fully VIP.
An exclusive group of 8 pre-war Aston Martins gathered for a rally at the eclectic Caffeine & Machine premises not far from Leamington Spa for a rally briefing over coffee and pastries. This place is a real petrolhead's heaven and embraces everything automotive - but it HAS to be something that breaks from the norm; the Astons were a hit of course. Equipped with a set of tulip notes and the support crew bringing up the rear, the cars set of on a beautiful route through some breathtaking scenery to arrive at a secret location in the South Cotswolds to view a particularly impressive car collection which is not normally open for visitors.
After exchanging anecdotes over a delicious pub lunch the guests found that the rain had cheekily washed off some of the dust, but happily the sun was shining again and off they all set.
With the support crew having rounded up a couple of cars which had ventured off-route, the afternoon tea stop was at a hidden gem - Daylesford Organic Farm. One driver described it as "Harrods in the Countryside", with its salivating and vast display of cakes and sweet delights to choose from, and even some of their own organic beer.
With full bellies and smiles all round it was time for the last leg of the tour. More fantastic scenery through charming villages and easy lanes before the party arrived at the Mallory Court Hotel outside Leamington Spa. After a relax in the luxurious hotel suites and a freshen-up, it was soon time for pre-dinner drinks and later some fine food in the hotel's private dining room.
The following day the skies had darkened but the rain held off for the short drive over to the Aston Martin site at Gaydon for bacon rolls and a hello from Vice President David King, who had joined the fun on the rally the previous day. Steve Waddingham then took the group on a tour of the production line inside the factory, and the astounding meticulous detail that goes into assembling a modern Aston Martin was clear to see.
The day ended with some lunch at Aston Martin and a chance for photographs before everyone went their own separate ways.
All in all, much enjoyment was had all round. We were delighted to introduce David King to his first experience of a pre-war Aston; something he enjoyed very much indeed. Also thanks to Steve Waddingham for keeping Andy Bell company on the rally and being a sterling navigator. He, along with some of the guests are already asking when we will run the next one!
